Beaches and Swimming Pools
  • Are the beaches sandy or pebbly?
  • You will be able to find sandy, shingly and pebbly beaches all over Corfu.
  • Are the beaches clean?
  • Yes, Corfu's beaches are very clean and many of them have been awarded Blue Flags by the EU in recognition of cleanliness and facilities.
  • Are there lifeguards on the beaches?
  • On several of the beaches you will find lifeguards but not on all of them.
  • Is it safe to swim in the sea around Corfu?
  • Yes, it is very safe as there are no tides.  In the afternoons, the wind can occasionally pick up and the sea can become quite rough and choppy, therefore you should always be vigilant especially if you have children or weak swimmers with you. 
  • Can I hire sunloungers and umbrellas on the beaches?
  • Yes, on most of the main beaches all around Corfu you will find sun loungers and umbrellas for rent.  On many of the more quieter beaches you will not find this facility.
  • Will I be able to do watersports in Corfu?
  • Yes, there are watersports in Corfu, however you will not find the same things on offer in all resorts.  You will find things such as water-skiing, jet-skiing, sailing, paragliding and scuba diving amongst other things but you may have to travel around the island if you want to do all these sports.  On many beaches you will find pedaloes and canoes.
  • Do all swimming pools have lifeguards?
  •  No, the only pools where you will find lifeguards are at the waterparks. 
  • Do the swimming pools have depth markings?
  • Some of the pools will have depth markings but not all.  You should be very vigilant when using pools and be sure to check where the shallow and deep ends are before entering.
  • Are the swimming pools cleaned regularly?
  • Yes, all pools have to be cleaned regularly and chemical levels checked in guidance with health and safety regulations.  During high season when it is extremely hot the water can occasionally become cloudy.
